Google’s taking big step to stop spreading fake news

The internet is full of fake news web portals and Google’s trying to stop this garbage from misleading people.

The biggest search engine and tech giant is now blocking the blogs and news websites in the search result that spreads false information and fake news just to get some clicks. If the news portal will mask their country of origin, Google will block the news to appear in Google News.

The company has updated its guidelines and now the content that will be shown on Google News must follow the below terms:

Sites included in Google News must not misrepresent, misstate, or conceal information about their ownership or primary purpose, or engage in coordinated activity to mislead users. This includes, but isn’t limited to, sites that misrepresent or conceal their country of origin or are directed at users in another country under false premises.

For some people this change seems small but in true it will have a broad impact. By blocking masked country of origin, Google will effectively burying the chance to appear fake news on their search result and hence reducing chances of spreading it.

Google’s new war on dishonest websites will also encourage new players to enter in the News market and fill the spot by reporting real stories. The step will also boost the trust of Google’s traffic. The move is not surprising considering how Google’s search engine is a primary source of news access for many people on the internet.

Google still wants to uphold its mission statement as “organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful” as this big step clearly shows the intention.
